🌷 8 Weeks of Self-Care to Feeling Healthier and Happier! – Outline of the Program

I have structured this program for you to start on a Sunday and continue for 8 weeks. You are free to start at any day of the week. However, if you’d like to follow the program outline below, then I suggest that you start on a Sunday as well.

Below is an outline of the program:

  • Mind: mindset, practice non-judgment, practice acceptance, remove negative thoughts, install positive thoughts, heal your trauma, be gentle with yourself.
  • take action – as soon as you think of doing something, do it right away
  • just for today
  • discernment
  • if you want to eliminate a habit, reduce it bit by bit – bite-sized reductions – easier to swallow and digest!
  • take the first step
  • it doesn’t have to be perfect
  • stop comparing
  • don’t cry over spilled milk.
  • you may have had a wonderful experience with one person that you miss, but just remember, you can have many other wonderful experiences in different forms with other people as well, which may be even better!
  • Body: diet, exercise, sleep, stretching, tapping, energy meridians.
  • While this is not a nutrition-based course, there are still many simple steps that you can do to help improve your body function. (Disclaimer regarding seeking medical advice from licensed medical practitioners).
  • drink at least 8 glasses of clean water every day, clean filtered air. Eliminate toxins from your body. Test for your allergies and eliminate them. Test your blood sugar levels and make sure that they are stable and within normal values.
  • If you keep on waking up at a certain time at night and find it very difficult to fall asleep again, it may be due to imbalanced blood sugar levels causing your cortisol levels to increase, and thus making it very difficult to fall back asleep again. Sleep apnea, GERD.
  • Relax TMJ, relax 7th chakra (Yin Tang point as well in Oriental Medicine).
  • Stand a little taller, sit a little taller. Your physical actions affect your emotions and vice versa. Stand a little taller and your emotions will become a little stronger as well.
  • Spirit: meditation, setting healthy boundaries, energy clearing, asking for help from your higher power, affirmations, mirror work.
  • 🌺 Week 1: Introductory Week – Self-Love, Self-Care
  • This week, we will start with some simple self-care daily practices for your mind, body and spirit.
  • We will start adding more slowly week by week and you can start to pick and choose the ones you like, and decide whether you would like to practice them daily, weekly or even monthly.
  • By the end of the 8th week (the Integration week), you would have compiled your own self-care mind, body and spirit toolkit.
  • However, it is recommended that you practice all of the mind, body and spirit tools in this first week every single day as this will set you up for success in becoming healthier and happier each and every day!

  • This is the most important tool to have in your mind, body and spirit self-care toolkit – having a healthy mindset.
  • When you have a healthy mindset and are able to see yourself becoming more healthy and happy, then it will be a lot easier for you to perform the essential daily self-care practices.

  • You are exactly where you are supposed to be right now in your healing journey.
  • Most too often, we beat ourselves up for not being good enough, successful enough, or rich enough, etc. This brings on a lot of feelings of guilt, shame and anxiety for not being where we think we are supposed to be in our lives. Let that all go. You are enough! You are beautiful, you are handsome, you are kind, you are generous, and you are exactly where you are supposed to be in life and in your healing journey in this moment. Release all of your negative thoughts.

  • Practice gentle stretching exercises daily. When you move your body, you open up your energy channels, which is called “Qi”, or “Chi”, in Oriental Medicine. When your Qi is flowing properly throughout your body, then it relieves blockages (i.e. pain) throughout your body.

  • Many people have reported great benefits just by incorporating gratitude into their daily lives.
  • When you wake up each morning, think of 3 things that you are grateful for.
  • Start the sentence with, “I am so grateful and thankful that…”
  • e.g. I am so grateful and thankful that I slept well last night.
  • I am so grateful and thankful for my bed.
  • The key is to think of different things that you are grateful for each time. This brings your awareness to surface level. You can be grateful for the delicious cup of herbal tea you had last night. You can be grateful that a stranger opened a door for you yesterday. You can be grateful that you are alive.
  • When you start practicing gratitude, you will start to find so many things for you to be grateful for in life, and you will naturally start to be happier.

🧠 Thoughts and Ideas

  • 10/29/21: As I’m going through various online courses on the Mind, Body, and Spirit, I’m beginning to feel that I function best on a weekly course, instead of daily. This way, it becomes more flexible as to how I want to go through the course content, as long as I finish it in a week.
  • I think I’m going to structure my course with weekly modules instead. I’m still trying to decide if I should make it into an 8-week, or 12-week course.
  • Each week, there will be practices for the Mind, Body, and Spirit that the students can practice throughout the week.
  • 08/28/22:
  • You may have won the battle, but lost the war.
  • Don’t Settle!, But Be Realistic at the same time.

🌹 Are you an empath?

I am an empath. I was born into a family of narcissists – my father and my brother. I also married a narcissist. The main difference between an empath and a narcissist is that narcissists do not have empathy, i.e. put themselves in other people’s shoes. Empaths have a natural ability to be empathic and often have boundary issues.

When I ask my husband to put himself in other people’s shoes, he’s able to do that and understand more about why the person said or did what they said or did. However, it is something that he has to intentionally do when being asked to.

Empaths have difficulty in setting boundaries for themselves. We have difficulty in knowing where our boundary ends and often have others extend into our boundary.

I am Miss Goody Two Shoes. Growing up in a very traditional family, I always felt that I’m supposed to do everything that the “norm” does, i.e. get a good educational degree, get married, have children, and have grandchildren, etc.

Seems that the Universe had other plans for me. I spent years of my life and my health to become a dentist, and yet, ended up feeling sick, experiencing pain, and having mild scoliosis due to long term poor posture. That was a huge turning point in my life. I was no longer following the “status quo” in our society. That was the first time I slowly started to realize that I have been living my life according to my parent’s dreams, and not my own. I don’t even know what I like or dislike anymore? It was all about people pleasing.

After learning more on my spiritual journey, I started to realize the reasons behind my beliefs and behavioral practices. I was an “accident”. Dad said nicely that I was a “pleasant accident”. However, I think I have that imprinted in my memory before I was even born. That I was not supposed to be born, and it was because of my parent’s mercy that I was allowed to be born. I think that’s why I have people-pleasing tendencies since I was a young child.

I remember after every dinner meal, I will tell mom, “Mom, thank you for dinner. It was delicious”, even when it wasn’t. Mom didn’t even seem to appreciate it as she probably got so used to hearing me saying it night after night.

We had two Doberman Pinschers back in South Africa that we raised since they were puppies, Jet a male, and Rora, a female. Jet was the first dog we’ve ever had, so we didn’t know how to raise him properly. I think Jet was an empath too. I say “was” because this was over 25 years ago, and I’m assuming that he has passed on to heaven now. Rora was a lot more fortunate as we kind of had an inkling as to how to raise a puppy after Jet. I think Jet also taught Rora a lot regarding life, and how to get along with our family.

Jet used to bark a lot. Dad would hit him when he does. Being an empath, and someone who also feels like I need to be responsible for everyone’s wellbeing, I’m always on high alert. So even if it’s early in the morning and I hear Jet barking, I will pull myself out of bed, go outside even when it’s in the freezing winter, and intentionally scold and hit (not hard though) Jet, especially for my dad to hear, so that he won’t hit Jet again. That’s how I am in life, always feeling responsible to make sure that everyone is happy, and no one gets hurt.

We later on bought two miniature French poodles, called “Tien Tien – sweetheart – female”, and “Xiao Baio – precious gift – male”. One time, Tien Tien peed on the floor near the front entrance and we didn’t notice it until dad came home and almost slipped. He instinctively kicked Tien Tien hard. I’m usually mild mannered, but I got so mad when he did that and yelled at him. I couldn’t believe that he had the heart to kick such a tiny little life, just because he almost slipped. That’s my dad. Don’t get me wrong, for I love him dearly. However, if you disobey him, or get in his way, then you will for sure feel his wrath.
